I plan to fuse my love of personal productivity and automation with this idea of a Life/Personal API. OmniFocus API specs, API docs, OpenAPI support, SDKs, GraphQL, developer docs, CLI, IDE plugins, API pricing, developer experience, authentication. I know this has been brought up in the past, but I can’t find any trace of it in the new forum system: a REST API web service for OmniFocus based off of the OmniSync server could be tremendously useful for enabling 3rd party web apps, integration layers with other services (like Evernote, IFTTT, etc), and interacting with OmniFocus in a programm. Synced Preferences Storage The library uses a project inside a dropped folder named Synced Preferences to store any preferences, which is then synced using the regular OmniFocus sync method (like any other projects and tasks in the database would be).

I began to explore this concept in a practical way on the SendGrid blog with a post about how to rapidly prototype an API, using a GTD ToDo API as an example. omnifocusjs file to your OmniFocus plug-in library folder (or open it to install). This led me to the question: why can't all my task related data be available through a single API? What about my health data (FitBit, LoseIt, Fitocracy), or my Calendar data? How about all my various social inboxes (Twitter, Facebook, G+, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)? Unfortunately, no such thing exists for OmniFocus. Then, I could create a custom solution that would give me the data I needed when away from the desktop.
What I needed was a RESTful OmniFocus API. I finally came to the realization that replacing OmniFocus was not the answer. So, I began a quest to find a new system that would work across platforms. As a OmniFocus dependent, I no longer had easy, pocket sized access to my task management system. This presented me with a major problem right away. Web Add-on subscription (4.99/month or 49.99/year): Gets you OmniFocus for the Web. After using an iPhone since the 3Gs, I became an Android Moto X user. We’ve become aware of a number of third-party client applications that claim to sync with OmniFocus and our Omni Sync Server. This threw me head first into the Google hardware ecosystem. Modifying your OmniFocus database via these means is unsupported and at your own risk. OmniFocus for the Web is designed to work in tandem with your other versions of OmniFocus, providing access to your OmniFocus database from any desktop computer with a modern internet browser.
